Decaffeination Process

This is processed at origin in Colombia by our friends at DESCAFECOL in Manizales.

They use naturally occuring spring water that flows through the property that is filtered through a sand trap & boiler. No additional chemicals or chlorine is added to this treatment.

The coffee is then hot rinsed at 185F for around 11 hours in an extractor using Ethyl Acetate, (EA) for short. This natural solvent is obtained by controlled fermentation of sugarcane molasses at 99.9% purity.

The coffee is then moved to a distiller to remove any excess E.A. and finally mechanically dried for 6 hours before being packed in grain pro and loaded for export.

I picked up this decaf when I was down in River Market area and had run out of my usual brand. It's so good that I've switched over to Thou Mayest's decaf for good! I make pour over iced or hot coffee on any day and always use decaf because I'm sensitive to caffeine. The 5lb comes in a zip bag that I keep in the freezer and dole out a smaller amount every week or two. I love it!
