Seasonal Peaberry Series – Tanzania
Our newest seasonal coffee is now available in store and online. This single origin peaberry is from the Mbeya region of Southern Tanzania. A high altitude coffee that is a bold, flavor-packed bean.
This is a dense coffee, packed with bright citrusy notes, bright orange acidity, a zesty pulpy-fruity flavor, medium body with round caramels, and a surprisingly viscous mouthfeel. Brew is similar to Wild Child.
In Southern Tanzania, between Lake Tanganyika to the north and Lake Malawi to the south, is the Mbeya coffee growing region, also called the Southern Highlands. It is a subtropical highland climate with humid, warm summer seasons and dry, cooler winters. The rainy season lasts from March to May, and annual rainfall averages 35 inches. The soils are deep red and volcanic, perfect conditions for coffee to flourish. The Mbeya region is the largest producer of Arabica coffees in Tanzania’s five coffee growing regions. In Mbeya, the main variety of Arabica grown is bourbon, allowing for consistent, emotive, yet elegant coffees.
