WHAT IS A PEABERRY COFFEE?

A peaberry coffee bean results from a coffee cherry producing just one relatively round seed instead of two. It’s a small, dense grade of coffee once considered a defect, but modern farming has revealed its quality.

Peaberry vs normal coffee cherries
Peaberry cherries only develop one seed (left). Normal cherries develop two (right).

We love roasting PB. They’re kinetic, lively and exciting. Since 2011, we’ve loved working with them and wanted a rotating seasonal offering.

RWANDA TERROIR

Coffee plays a major role in Rwanda’s economy. Around 400,000 smallholder families depend on coffee for their livelihood. Production ranges from 267,000 to 420,000 bags per year.

Rwandan coffees are clean, bright, fruit-forward, often tea-like with floral sweetness.

Historically Rwanda was the 9th largest producer of Arabica in Africa. Farms average 165 trees per farmer.
